The Fabulous-3 relaxed trip

Dates: Mar 28 – April 3, 2011

Day 1 : Arrive at Guwahati by late morning/ early afternoon. After lunch, go to the Umananda temple (on an island in the Brahmaputra river), crossing the river by ferry, and enjoy the evening sunset.

Overnight: Guwahati

Day 2: After breakfast, drive to spectacular Nameri National Park (5 hours), located at the border of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, and on the banks of the clear mountain river Jia-Bhorali. On clear days, you can see the snow peaks of the Eastern Himalayas in the distance. We will stay at the Eco-Camp, in huts or tents. In the afternoon, go for very gentle rafting down the river, spotting the many bird and animal species here. Evening bonfire and camping.
Overnight: Nameri Eco Camp

Day 3:  In the morning, After breakfast, we will go for a hike into the forest with an experienced naturalist. This is a birdwatchers delight. In the afternoon we will cross the Brahmaputra river by the bridge and drive to Kaziranga National Park (2 hours), home of the one-horned rhinoceros. Evening relax at your resort.

Overnight: Kaziranga/ Bon-habi resort

Day 4: Get up very early for an Elephant safari where we will see rhinos up close and personal. In the afternoon go for a Jeep Safari where we will see herds of wild buffaloes, elephants, and wild deer, and the one-horned rhinoceros, only to be found in this part of the world. Birdwatchers, be ready with your binocs in the early mornings and evenings!

Overnight: Kaziranga

Day 5 : After breakfast, leave for Majuli (nominated for UNESCO world heritage site for its cultural traditions). Lunch at Jorhat and a ferry ride to Majuli river island ( 2-3 hrs) on the Brahmaputra.   In the evening enjoy the tranquil environs of Majuli , where tribal Mising culture co-exists with Vaishnavite culture. Stay at a traditional tribal platform house (chang-ghar).

Day 6 (2 Jan, Sat): We will visit the Sattras ( where monks maintain old traditions of the Vaishnavite culture started by Srimanta Sankardeva, the saint-bard of Assam, and where you may see them practising on the Taal and the Khul), and the Mising village ( where you can see the living tribal culture, including the incredible weaving by the village women).

Overnight: Majuli
Day 7 : Ferry back to Jorhat and drive back to Guwahati ( 7 hrs) and check into your hotel. Evening free.
