Balpakram National Park
Balpakram National Park is located in South Garo Hills district in Meghalaya. It is famous for its forest covered canyon-cum-gorge and is home to a variety of rare exotic plant and animal life as well as marine fossils.
Balpakram is often referred to as the “abode of perpetual winds” and “land of spirits”, as according to Garo myth it is a land of the eternal death. This place is not only of mythological importance but it is also a biodiversity hotspot, which has a remnant population of the endangered Wild water buffalo, golden cat, barking deer and red pandas. It is also believed to be the original home of the rare citrus plant Me-mang Narang , orchids like the pitcher plant and many medicinal plants.
