Cherrapunjee

One of the wettest places on earth, Cherrapunjee or Sohra, is a stunning little town located a few miles from Shillong. From its misty mountains and lush green forests to giant waterfalls and mysterious caves, everything about this place is worth exploring.

During the monsoon season, the countryside goes through a breathtaking transformation, making for an almost ethereal landscape with the air filled with mist, cloud covered hills and numerous waterfalls that come alive with a thunderous roar.

Sohra is known for its natural limestone caves and over the past few years the adventure sport of spelunking (caving) has become quite popular. It is also famous for its living root bridges, a result of bio-engineering practised by the locals.
