The Hornbill Festival of Nagaland

Join us for the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland, a wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime experience! The festival brings together 16 major tribes of Nagaland for festivities in the first week of December each year. The tribes get together to participate in dance and sport, and to share their craft and culture with each other and with the visitors. The colorful performances show off the rich traditions of the tribes, and are based on themes of hunting, harvest and war. This alone is woth the visit!

What we found unique about Hornbill however is how eclectic it is: A hilarious chilly eating contest, an exciting motor car rally, Naga wrestling, a beautiful fashion night, a pork-fat greased pole climbing contest, great public art, fantastic momos and rice beer, and to top it all – the biggest, and arguably best, rock concert in India.

Close your eyes, and mix this in with the gentle camaraderie and joyousness of the tribes people, set amidst beautiful mountain surroundings. Open your eyes now – and contactus@gypsyfeettravels.com!
